The Conservation Volunteers Green Gym Programme
Ridgeway Park Chingford, Chingford
The Green Gym enables volunteers to get physically active whilst improving the environment and their local community. All sessions are FREE, run weekly and everyone is welcome regardless of experience, ability or fitness. Each session provides a range of new and interesting outdoor practical conservation experiences to improve strength and stamina, boost practical skills and give the opportunity to meet others with similar interests. On each day our projects cover a range of activity from practical conservation of existing habitats, to planting new wildlife gardens, orchards or developing allotments and community food growing spaces. On the day tasks can range from planting wildflowers, bulbs, shrubs and trees, to fencing and building paths and steps, to the removal of invasive species.
The Conservation Volunteers Green Gym Programme
Leyton Jubilee Park, Leyton
Green Gyms are fun and free outdoor sessions where you will be guided in practical activities such as planting trees, sowing meadows and establishing wildlife ponds.
Unlike other conservation projects, the emphasis is very much on health and fitness! Volunteers warm up and cool down in preparation for a range of light to vigorous activities to suit all abilities.
In fact, almost a third more calories can be burnt in some Green Gym sessions than in an average aerobics class!
The Conservation Volunteers Green Gym Programme
Lloyd Park, Walthamstow
The Conservation Volunteers' Green Gym program aims to provide people with a way to enhance their fitness, health and general well-being while taking action to improve the outdoor environment. Green Gyms also enhance mental wellbeing through increased contact with nature, the social benefits of group activity and helping people contribute something positive to their community. TCV work closely with partners, including mental health charity Mind, to continually innovate Green Gyms to ensure that they maximise the benefits for participants.

Francis Road, Leyton
A vibrant residential and commercial street newly planted with a diverse range of bulbs perennials shrubs and trees. The plants are particularly easy on the eye (and proboscis as pollinators needs were made top priority). For Forest Flora we have painted the trees that unfortunately died through the hottest summer last year. We should always consider the need for the correct amount of irrigation. New trees will be planted next year and the street will continue grow as the plants find their roots.
