Chingford Green Gym

Chingford Green Gym enables volunteers to get physically active whilst improving the environment and their local community.

All sessions are FREE, run weekly and everyone is welcome regardless of experience, ability or fitness.

Each session provides a range of new and interesting outdoor practical conservation experiences to improve strength and stamina, boost practical skills and give the opportunity to meet others with similar interests.

On each day our projects cover a range of activity from practical conservation of existing habitats, to planting new wildlife gardens, orchards or developing allotments and community food growing spaces.

On the day tasks can range from planting wildflowers, bulbs, shrubs and trees, to fencing and building paths and steps, to the removal of invasive species.

Volunteer at Chingford Green Gym

Our volunteer officers (VO’s) for Chingford are Jane, Max, and Giorgia. They oversee the rest of the volunteers and lead the sessions. Gareth is our project officer for Waltham forest and oversees all three green gyms.

The group meets at the Park Keeper's Office in Ridgeway Park.

The team have recently been clearing a very large wooded area of weeds, ivy and litter. Including removing a section of broken wire fencing which was harmful to wildlife. They have also been pruning and lopping the trees, removing dead, damaged or over grown branches to maintain the trees health. This all helps to increase biodiversity and keeps the park looking great!
